Plugin Updates: Related Posts, Posts for Feeds, Searches, and Tags

Notice — Related Posts, Related Posts for Feeds, Related Searches and Related Tags, each of which leverage extract terms, are now v.2.14.

The key change in each is that the cache folder is now created automatically.

Notice — Extract Terms, Related Searches, Related Tags, and Related Posts got a couple of updates in the past couple of weeks.

Also of interest is the Related Posts For Feeds, which lets you insert related posts directly into an RSS feed.

Extract terms collection, v.2.6

In software — Extract Terms, Terms2search, Terms2tags and Terms2posts are all v.2.6.

This is a bug fix version. The previous update introduced a bug: Some Unix configs ended up no longer working.

Yahoo! Terms-based plugins

In resources — I've released the beta versions of three new WordPress plugins based on Yahoo!'s term extraction web service:

The extract terms plugin is a generic term extraction plugin for use in other plugins
The terms2search plugin converts a post's terms in search queries, for use to search related posts on your blog
The terms2tags plugin converts a post's terms in technorati tags, for use to search related posts off your blog

Yahoo2tag plugin

News — I've begun to work on my extract terms plugin. I invite those of you who are wondering how to get those Yahoo! tags at the bottom of each post and page to check out Jonas Luster's Yahoo2tag plugin.

I'll be using both Jonas' plugin and mine at the same time in the upcoming days/week to compare the efficiency of a raw extraction and a more refined extraction.

I think there are a lot of better things to do with the service than a simple link to technorati. Namely, linking to your own site's search engine can probably sprout interesting results.

Update: The plugin was dropped in favor of the Autotag plugin.
