Horizontal Menus

The Nav Menus plugin for WordPress creates configurable navigation widgets that can be placed either in the Header area to create a horizontal menu as shown or placed in a vertical sidebar. Only one Nav Menu can be placed in the Header area

When placed in the sidebar a Nav Menu will create an appearance similar to Silo Pages but is more configurable. Multiple Nav Menus can be placed in one Sidebar as shown or in different sidebars.

Creating a Nav Menu

When first placed in the panel the widget will be empty with the exception of 'Home'.  To add additional navigation links click on the drop down menu arrow to the right of Home.

The menu will drop down listing all the Sections already created.  Note that a Page is automatically a Section as long as it is a top level Page.  Child Pages will not appear in the listing.  However, they can still be added to the Navigation Menu by using their URL.

Click on the Page required and the Page name will appear in the Item.  add_menu_itemThen click on the Plus button to create the new Menu Item which will appear below.  In this case two additional Items have been created.

The Menu Items can be dragged and dropped into whichever order you prefer.  Save changes.

Navigation Links To Other Locations

The drop-down menu also allows you to create destinations other than Sections by using their URL.  This can be used to create links to Child pages which do not appear as Sections in the drop-down menu.  To navigate to a location other than a Section select URL and click the Plus button.  This will create a new Menu Item as shown.  Enter the URL caption  and the URL link as requested.  Then Save changes.

Using Multiple Nav Menus

This is useful if you wish to show different navigation depending on the context. As shown below, you may wish to show 'money' pages on the Blog and not the 'non-money' pages.  Unchecking the Section/Blog would ensure that Nav Menu 1 was not shown on the Blog.  At the same time you would uncheck all the boxes except for Section/Blog on Nav Menu 2.
